One Additional COVID-19 Case Confirmed in Jeonnam... Overseas Entrant
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Following the COVID-19 positive diagnoses of a couple in their 60s and their teenage grandson in Jeonnam on the 27th, one more confirmed case has been added. This is the 13th overseas entrant confirmed in Jeonnam Province.
On the 28th, according to Jeonnam Province (Governor Kim Young-rok), a man in his 40s, Mr. A, was confirmed as the 24th COVID-19 case in the Jeonnam area.
Mr. A entered Incheon International Airport via Mexico Airport, traveling from Nicaragua.
He used the KTX exclusive carriage for overseas entrants and was admitted to a temporary testing facility operated by Jeonnam Province.
The diagnostic test results from the Jeonnam Health and Environment Research Institute confirmed a final positive diagnosis that morning. He is currently being transferred and hospitalized in isolation at Gwangju Bitgoeul Jeonnam National University Hospital. He is showing no particular symptoms.
As COVID-19 spreads in Central and South American countries recently, four company colleagues who arrived earlier in May tested negative, but it was confirmed that Mr. A was infected during his solo entry process.
Five other overseas entrants who traveled together by train and bus from Gwangmyeong Station to the temporary testing facility also tested negative. They have been notified to the local health center and are under self-quarantine, with diagnostic tests planned before release from isolation.
Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeonnam Province stated, “An epidemiological investigation is underway for the overseas entrant and the Mokpo confirmed case that occurred on the 27th. We will do our best to block the chain of infection by conducting diagnostic tests on contacts in visited areas centered on the confirmed patients’ movement paths.” He urged, “Please be sure to participate in social distancing and the habitual wearing of masks.”
