Where to Find Summer Romance in Daepurika... Daegu City Finally Cancels the 'Chimaek Festival'
Chicken & Beer Industry Association Donates 100 Tons of Chicken to Daegu City
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] The Daegu region's representative festival, the 'Chimaek Festival,' which was a source of romance for the citizens of the 'Daefrica,' has ultimately been canceled amid signs of the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Daegu City, the Korea Chimaek Industry Association, and the Daegu Chimaek Festival Organizing Committee announced on the 24th, "Considering the health and safety of the public, we have decided to cancel this year's festival."
The festival, originally scheduled to be held from July 1 to 5, had been postponed to August 26 to 30. The organizers made the final decision that it would be difficult to proceed amid the ongoing COVID-19 cases centered in the metropolitan area and the surge of asymptomatic infections.
The Daegu Chimaek Festival, selected as a Korean cultural tourism festival, was highly popular last year, with all reserved seats sold out despite one day of closure during the five-day festival period due to a typhoon. Following the cancellation, the Chimaek Industry Association decided to donate 100 tons of chicken to Daegu.
