Defector Group Claims 'Anti-North Leaflet' Distribution... Police "Verifying Facts"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Free North Korea Movement Alliance, a defector organization, claimed to have distributed leaflets against North Korea in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, prompting the police to verify the facts.
A police official said in a phone call on the 23rd, "We are confirming whether the leaflets were distributed," adding, "We will investigate whether they were actually distributed, the scale of the distribution, whether the leaflets reached North Korea, or if they fell in our area."
Earlier, Park Sang-hak, the head of the Free North Korea Movement Alliance, claimed that leaflets were sent from Deogeun-ri, Wollong-myeon, Paju, in the afternoon of the previous day. Park said, "We trained amateur members to distribute the leaflets," and added, "All the hydrogen gas was confiscated, so we purchased much more expensive helium gas to distribute the leaflets."
Park also claimed that six members of the Free North Korea Movement Alliance attached 500,000 leaflets titled 'The Truth of the 6.25 Atrocity' to large balloons and distributed them.
The police are currently operating a 24-hour security system in five regional police agencies?in Incheon, southern Gyeonggi, northern Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and Chungnam?to prevent the distribution of leaflets against North Korea.
