[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] From 5 PM on the 26th, National Route 29 connecting Jeongeup City and Gimje City in Jeollabuk-do will be fully opened.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 23rd that the construction of a new 4-lane National Route 29 connecting Yeongwon-myeon in Jeongeup City, Jeollabuk-do, and Baeksan-myeon in Buan County has been completed.
The newly opened section, which began construction in March 2012 and took over 8 years with a total project cost of 94 billion KRW, replaces the existing 2-lane road with poor alignment passing through residential areas with a 20-meter wide 4-lane road (7.5 km).
Travel time is reduced by 5 minutes, from the previous 13 minutes to 8 minutes. The driving distance decreases by 0.64 km, from 8.15 km to 7.52 km.
The 4-lane new national road project for National Route 29 between Jeongeup and Gimje (26.8 km, 298.2 billion KRW) was divided into four sections: Baeksan Bypass, Shintaein-Gimje, Jeongeup-Shintaein Sections 1 and 2.
Starting with the opening of the Baeksan Bypass road (2.4 km) in December 2009, Jeongeup-Shintaein Section 1 (8.9 km) was opened in December 2013, and the Shintaein-Gimje section (8.0 km) was opened in February 2016.
