The CPC Central Committee's Standing Committee Begins Deliberation on Hong Kong National Security Law Draft
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's highest legislative body, has begun reviewing the draft of the Hong Kong National Security Law (Hong Kong Security Law).
According to state-run Xinhua News Agency and other foreign media on the 18th, the draft of the Hong Kong Security Law was submitted to the NPC Standing Committee, which convened from that day for review. This Standing Committee meeting will be held until the 20th.
The draft of the Hong Kong Security Law reportedly stipulates four criminal acts and criminal liabilities that threaten national security: ▲national division ▲subversion of state power ▲terrorist activities ▲collusion with foreign forces.
The NPC passed the draft of the Hong Kong Security Law at its annual plenary session last month. China plans to enact the Hong Kong Security Law and incorporate it into the Hong Kong Basic Law after Hong Kong was thrown into turmoil last year due to protests against the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance (Extradition Law).
