Gyeonggi-do to Start AI 'Quarantine Training' from This Month... Advanced by 2 Months
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will conduct early quarantine education as a preemptive measure against highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI).
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 18th that, in response to the recent increase in AI outbreaks overseas in Europe and China, it will start the "2020-2021 Winter Season Avian Influenza (AI) Quarantine Education" early from this month through August, two months earlier than last year.
The province will provide education to the first group of city and county quarantine officers on recent overseas outbreak trends, central government and Gyeonggi Province quarantine measures, and related laws. For the second phase of education, video materials and promotional items will be used to educate poultry farms in each city and county.
Additionally, as the importance of on-site clinical surveillance grows, the Gyeonggi Provincial Animal Hygiene Laboratory will conduct practical training on AI rapid diagnostic kit testing procedures for new livestock quarantine officers and public veterinarians.
The province will especially introduce non-face-to-face education and small group education this year.

Kim Seong-sik, Director of the Livestock and Forestry Bureau of the province, stated, "There have been no AI outbreaks in the past two years due to preemptive blocking quarantine and active cooperation from farms and related organizations. This year as well, we will not let our guard down and will minimize damage through thorough and preemptive measures such as compliance with quarantine rules, facility improvements, and feed management."
