The Gyeonggi Provincial Environmental Management Office announced on the 18th that starting from the 1st of next month, it will conduct special inspections and crackdowns on facilities discharging environmental pollutants within the province to prevent environmental pollution caused by unauthorized wastewater discharge and negligence in managing pollution prevention facilities during the rainy season.
This crackdown will be carried out in seven regions through a joint public-private effort: Banwol-Sihwa Industrial Complex and the southern area (Suwon, Osan, Hwaseong, etc.), the southwestern area (Pyeongtaek, Anseong, etc.), the southeastern area (Anyang, Gunpo, Seongnam, etc.), the western area (Gimpo, Bucheon, etc.), the northern area (Uijeongbu, Paju, Pocheon, Yeoncheon, etc.), and the eastern area (Yongin, Icheon, Yeoju, Yangpyeong, etc.).
The inspection targets 376 facilities suspected of discharging large amounts of wastewater or directly releasing wastewater into rivers.
The main inspection items include whether wastewater and air emission facilities are installed or operated without permits (unreported), unauthorized wastewater discharge, compliance with permitted wastewater discharge volumes and proper wastewater treatment, and operation status of aging pollution prevention facilities.

Facilities found violating regulations as a result of the crackdown will be subject to administrative measures such as facility improvement orders and fines according to relevant laws, and the information will be disclosed on the internet.
