Prime Minister Jeong Visits Jeonnam Regulatory Free Zone... Announces 'Top 10 Regulatory Innovation Agendas'
Jeonnam e-Mobility Regulatory Free Zone Full-Scale Promotion, 64.3 Billion Won Investment Agreement
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Jeong Seyeon visited the demonstration site of the 'Jeonnam e-Mobility Regulatory Free Zone' located in Daema-myeon, Yeonggwang-gun, on the afternoon of the 17th, congratulating the signing of a new investment agreement worth 60 billion won and announcing the government's future 'Top 10 Regulatory Innovation Agendas,' the Prime Minister's Office stated.
This visit marks Prime Minister Jeong's first on-site visit to a regulatory free zone to accelerate the pace of regulatory innovation and strengthen communication with the field.
The Jeonnam e-Mobility Regulatory Free Zone was designated as a special zone in July last year and plans to develop into a core hub in the e-mobility sector by 2023.
So far, 19 companies have relocated to the zone, showing achievements such as the completion of a micro electric vehicle factory with an annual production capacity of 30,000 units and a 3- and 4-wheeled electric vehicle factory with an annual production capacity of 12,000 units.
Through this investment agreement, five companies are expected to invest 64.3 billion won and create 238 jobs by 2023.
In particular, Prime Minister Jeong announced the Top 10 Regulatory Innovation Agendas to overcome the COVID-19 crisis and support economic revitalization.
The 10 agendas include key regulatory innovation tasks across four major areas: activation of non-face-to-face industries, support for promising new industries in the digital era, reorganization of the global value chain and strengthening of specialized industries, and fostering of regional strategic industries.
Going forward, Prime Minister Jeong plans to focus efforts on demand-centered regulatory innovation by actively communicating with the field based on the Top 10 Agendas.
First, for tasks of great interest to industry and regions, a 'Regulatory Innovation On-site Dialogue (tentative name)' will be established to listen to the opinions of various stakeholders and devise measures, while issues with intense social conflicts will be actively addressed through the Thursday Dialogue, which has been operating since April.
A government official said, "In early July next month, the 3rd Regulatory Free Zone will be designated at the Regulatory Free Zone Committee chaired by the Prime Minister," adding, "We will continue to strive to ensure that regulatory free zones play a pivotal role in regional innovative growth and balanced national development."
