According to United Future Party officials, Floor Leader Joo conveyed his intention to resign along with Policy Committee Chairman Lee Jong-bae at the party meeting that day. After concluding his procedural speech at the plenary session of the National Assembly in the afternoon, Floor Leader Joo stated through the party meeting, "I resign taking responsibility for failing to protect the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, which the main opposition party has held until now, and for not preventing the destruction of democracy."
Although United Future Party members tried to dissuade Floor Leader Joo from resigning and passed a resolution of confidence, he did not retract his resignation. He also told reporters he met after the party meeting, "My intention to resign is firm."

With Floor Leader Joo's resignation, the position of floor leader of the United Future Party has effectively become vacant. From the ruling party's perspective, with no counterpart to negotiate with regarding the election of the remaining 12 standing committee chairpersons by the next plenary session on the 19th, it is expected that discussions related to the organization of the National Assembly will become difficult to proceed.
