Gyeongbuk Gimcheon-si Cancels July's Scheduled 'Podo Agassi Contest'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Gimcheon City, Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 15th that it will cancel the Grape Miss Selection Contest scheduled for July to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Gimcheon, the nation's largest grape production area and a grape special zone, has been selecting the Grape Miss biennially since 1996. This is the first time the contest has been canceled.
The budget for the selection contest will be invested in local farmers through new projects such as building online sales infrastructure to promote the consumption of local agricultural products and agricultural product package projects.

A Gimcheon city official explained, "As COVID-19 cases have recently increased again, raising concerns about re-spread, we decided to cancel the Grape Miss Selection Contest with the safety of citizens as the top priority."
