According to El Pa?s, Spain's largest daily newspaper, on the 14th (local time), Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced this plan during a weekly video conference with regional governors.
From the 21st, Spain will not impose a 2-week self-quarantine requirement on entrants from EU member countries, except Portugal.
Furthermore, from July 1, Spain will not enforce mandatory self-quarantine for entrants from non-EU countries. In the case of Portugal, entry will be allowed from July 1, similar to non-EU countries, either as an EU member or upon the Portuguese government's request.
Earlier, Spain declared a national state of emergency on March 14 to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The state of emergency, which has been extended several times, is scheduled to be in effect only until the 21st, coinciding with the border reopening.
As a result, Spanish citizens will be able to move freely throughout the country. Currently, most residents have only been allowed to move within their local regions or provinces.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sanchez reportedly expressed concerns about the situations in countries such as those in the Americas and Russia during the meeting.
