11 Outstanding 'Safety Report' Cases Selected Including COVID-19 Self-Quarantine Violations and Manhole Cover Damage
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 14th that it selected 11 outstanding reports out of approximately 120,000 safety reports received through the Safety Report Center from January to March this year.
The Safety Report Center is a system where any citizen can report safety hazards around their daily life by taking photos or videos and submitting them via a portal or app. Since its launch in September 2014, more than 2.3 million safety reports have been received.
Among the outstanding reports selected this time, there was a case where a citizen noticed a COVID-19 self-quarantined individual walking in a park and reported it to the Safety Report Center out of concern for virus transmission. The Yongsan Public Health Center, upon receiving the report, confirmed the quarantine guideline violation, immediately filed a complaint with the police against the violator, and enforced quarantine measures.
Another citizen reported a severely damaged manhole cover on the sidewalk at a bus stop, judging that there was a risk of accidents such as foot entrapment. The Songdo Management Office of Incheon City, responsible for maintenance, visited the site and promptly replaced the damaged manhole cover.
Additionally, reports such as "damage to Yonggikyo bridge railing" and "damage to Haepalang-gil trail railing" were judged to have a high possibility of causing casualties and were evaluated as excellent reports with effective accident prevention. Reports like "damaged slide" and "defective joint in streetlight wing fixing part" were also selected as outstanding reports for preventing potential accidents to children and park users.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety awarded one grand prize winner with a gift certificate worth 500,000 KRW and 10 outstanding reporters with gift certificates worth 100,000 KRW each.
