[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Sales of convenience store coffee products are increasing significantly.
According to Emart24 on the 14th, an analysis of sales data from January 1 to June 11 showed that coffee products recorded the highest growth rate within the dairy beverage pouch category. For dairy products, refrigerated coffee sales increased by 33.6% compared to the previous year. Processed milk, white milk, and fermented milk increased by 6.4%, 21.94%, and 12.4%, respectively. Refrigerated coffee typically refers to cup coffee containing milk.
As the number of customers seeking coffee has greatly increased, the sales proportion of refrigerated coffee within the dairy product category rose from 33.1% in 2018 to 36.9% in 2020. In contrast, processed milk decreased from 32.2% to 28.1% during the same period.
Within the beverage category, coffee beverages (such as canned coffee) showed the highest sales growth rate. The sales growth rates for coffee beverages from last year and this year (January 1 to June 11) were 37.3% and 31.2% respectively, surpassing bottled water, sports drinks, and carbonated beverages. In the pouch beverage category, one of the most popular products during summer, coffee sales increased by 41.9% this year, more than doubling the growth rate of ade-type drinks.
Sales of Emart24’s Ifresso, a coffee product priced around 100 won, also increased by 76% this year. Emart explained, "As coffee becomes a daily habit, more customers are purchasing coffee products not only at coffee shops but also at convenience stores, resulting in a significant increase in sales." Emart24 is strengthening its variety of coffee products and expanding coffee-related marketing as the number of customers seeking coffee continues to grow.
