Yuriko Koike Declares Candidacy for Re-election as Tokyo Governor

On the 12th, Governor Koike stated at a press conference that she will run in the Tokyo gubernatorial election scheduled for July 5. She decided not to receive party endorsement.
Governor Koike plans to appeal for the continuation of Tokyo's administration, including preparations for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics postponed to next summer.
The ruling Liberal Democratic Party has decided not to field an independent candidate in this Tokyo gubernatorial election, avoiding a contest against the incumbent Governor Koike.

Meanwhile, Kenji Utsunomiya (73), former chairman of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, supported by opposition parties including the Constitutional Democratic Party, the Communist Party, and the Social Democratic Party, as well as Daisuke Ono (46), former vice governor of Kumamoto Prefecture backed by the Japan Innovation Party, are also expected to announce their candidacies.
