Nakdonggang Basin Environmental Office Conducts Chemical Accident Response Drill... Disaster Preparedness Up Increased
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office announced on the 11th that it conducted a 'self-simulated mobilization drill' to enhance rapid accident response capabilities in preparation for difficulties in responding to hazardous chemical spill accidents caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
This drill was conducted assuming a situation where hazardous chemicals leaked due to poor management at a methanol storage tank of a hazardous chemical handling company in Chilseo Industrial Complex, Haman-gun, Gyeongnam, affecting the surrounding environment.
The Nakdong River Office received a virtual hazardous chemical spill situation via phone, then dispatched an 'on-site response team' and formed a 'situation team' to manage the accident situation and respond accordingly.
Additionally, to monitor and detect the environmental impact of the leaked chemicals in real time, the Ulsan region's 'Chemical Disaster Joint Control Center' supported chemical measurement and analysis vehicles to detect, measure, analyze, collect, and recover the leaked chemicals, and to evacuate employees of the accident site company, simulating an actual situation.
