Yugeun-gi, Gokseong County Governor, Visits Hail-Damaged Farms to Encourage and Discuss Measures
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Yu Geun-gi, the mayor of Gokseong County, visited farms damaged by the sudden hailstorm to discuss future countermeasures.
According to Gokseong County on the 9th, on the 6th, hail up to 1 cm in size fell for 10 minutes in four towns and townships centered around Gokseong-eup, including Ogok-myeon, Samgi-myeon, and Seokgok-myeon, causing estimated damage to 232 farms over 100 hectares.
In particular, this hail damage severely affected the maesil (Korean plum) crops preparing for the June harvest. Most of the maesil fell or were damaged, making them unsellable. Additionally, fruits such as pears and apples, which were gradually ripening, also suffered critical damage.
Following the low-temperature damage in April, the hailstorm added insult to injury, deepening the worries of orchard farmers.
On the 8th, Yu Geun-gi, mayor of Gokseong County, visited the sites of damage to taro, garlic, maesil, apples, and other crops to console the farmers. He then listened to their suggestions and discussed support measures.
Mayor Yu said, “There is considerable damage to maesil farms and others entering the harvest season due to the sudden hailstorm. The county will promptly support disaster recovery funds through damage reports and detailed investigations of affected farms until the 19th.”
