Jeonju-si Sheds the Notorious Title of Heat Island City... Gains the Nickname of Green City
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Gominhyeong] Jeonju City, known as the city of ten million trees, is creating an urban forest in the Innovation City, where large-scale apartments and public institutions are concentrated, to alleviate the heat island effect.
The city announced on the 9th that it plans to invest a total of 2.5 billion KRW, including 1.25 billion KRW in national funds, by the end of this year to establish a dust-reducing forest in Innovation City by planting trees effective in reducing fine dust in 2.5 hectares of buffer green spaces, parks, and idle land of public institutions within the Innovation City.
To provide a pleasant green environment for public institutions settled in Innovation City and to improve the residential environment for residents, the city started a design service in April.
In particular, until the design service is completed in August, the city has decided to operate Daul Madang to more efficiently create the forest.
The city expects that the establishment of such a fine dust reduction forest in Innovation City will not only reduce fine dust but also alleviate the heat island effect, thereby improving the living conditions of residents comfortably.

An official from the city's Ecological City Bureau said, “We will strive to improve the living environment of Innovation City residents by creating a highly effective fine dust reduction forest.”
