Nowon-gu Operates 'Nowon History and Culture University' to Revisit Korea's War History
Seoul National University, Kwangwoon University, Seoul Women's University Professors' Lectures... 5 Sessions Including Field Trips, Free Tuition, First-Come-First-Served Enrollment for 90 Students
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is operating the ‘Nowon History and Culture University’ to broaden understanding and interest in history and traditional culture.
Marking the 70th anniversary of the Korean War this year, the theme of the ‘Nowon History and Culture University’ is ‘Wars in Korean History.’ The curriculum runs from the 22nd of this month to the 21st of next month, consisting of a total of five sessions including one field trip. Classes will be held every Monday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the small auditorium on the 6th floor of the district office. The course content includes ▲Wars of the Three Kingdoms unification and the Silla-Tang War ▲Wars between Goryeo and Liao ▲Imjin War and Byeongja Horan ▲Korean War in sequence.
The final class is a field trip to Deoksugung Palace, which was once called ‘Jeongneung-dong Haenggung’ and ‘Gyeongungung’ and faced the threat of demolition during the Korean War, for a story tour. Lectures are conducted by history professors from Seoul National University, Kwangwoon University, Seoul Women’s University, and Catholic University, each delivering a lecture on a specific topic. The schedule may change depending on the COVID-19 situation.
The tuition is free, and 90 participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications can be submitted through the Nowon-gu Office website or by phone to the Lifelong Education Project Team in the Education Support Division until the 15th. In case of excess applicants, Nowon-gu residents will be given priority. Selected participants will be individually notified via SMS on the 18th.

District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “It will be a meaningful time just to contemplate with many people the attitude we should have in this era through history,” and added, “We hope many interested people will participate.”
