400,000 Gyeonggi Residents Visit This Year's First Operation of the 'Local and National Tax Joint Filing Center'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] It has been revealed that 400,000 people visited Gyeonggi-do's first-ever 'Local Tax and National Tax Joint Filing Center' operated this year.
Gyeonggi-do announced on the 7th that 399,325 people visited the 'Local Tax and National Tax Joint Filing Center' over the past month to file their national comprehensive income tax and local income tax simultaneously.
Until now, individual local income tax was filed together with income tax at tax offices during the May comprehensive income tax filing period as an add-on to the national tax.
However, to strengthen local autonomy through deductions and exemptions tailored to each region, the tax system was reformed this year so that local governments directly receive and manage the filings.
Accordingly, city, county, and district offices can now accept simultaneous filings of comprehensive income tax (national tax) and individual local income tax (local tax).
Consequently, from May 1 to June 1, local governments and the National Tax Service operated joint filing centers at a total of 56 locations, including 25 tax offices and 31 city and county offices across the province.
At these centers, 140 local government employees responsible for local income tax and 53 National Tax Service (tax office) employees in charge of national tax worked in shifts to alleviate taxpayer inconveniences caused by separate filings by local governments.
Gyeonggi-do operated a comprehensive situation room for a month, collaborating with the Central (Incheon) Regional National Tax Service to continuously monitor the filing processing status at each center and distribute waiting taxpayers to manage the workload efficiently.
In particular, social distancing, mask distribution, and other COVID-19 prevention measures were strictly observed within the joint filing centers of the cities and counties.
The province plans to improve the operation of the first joint filing center and, in consultation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, will establish future joint filing centers in local governments considering factors such as population density, number of visiting taxpayers, and distance from tax offices.

Meanwhile, individual local income tax was originally required to be filed and paid by June 1, but this year, the deadline was extended by three months for all citizens due to COVID-19.
Additionally, for taxpayers who suffered direct or indirect damage, nationwide 2,235 cases of extension requests for filing deadlines were processed simultaneously for national and local taxes through ARS (Automatic Response System).
