Naju-si, 'Rice Crop Disaster Insurance' Enrollment Open Until 26th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 4th that farmers can subscribe to the ‘Rice Crop Disaster Insurance’ until the 26th to alleviate agricultural management instability caused by natural disasters and to promote income stability.
Crop disaster insurance, which covers crop damage caused by natural disasters such as heatwaves, typhoons, and hail, is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and NH Nonghyup Property & Casualty Insurance to relieve farmers' management instability and stabilize income.
Also, since the subscription period varies by crop, it is important for farmers to be aware of the subscription timing in advance.
Applications can be made at Nonghyup until the 26th.
The coverage includes damage caused by natural disasters such as typhoons and heavy rain, as well as damage caused by wild animals (조수해, Josuhae).
With special subscription, coverage for damage from diseases and pests such as bacterial leaf blight, striped leaf blight, and rice planthoppers is also possible.
To increase farmers' insurance subscription rates, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs supports 50% of the insurance premium, and Jeollanam-do and the city each support 30%.
Farmers only need to pay 20% of the insurance premium to subscribe through local agricultural and livestock cooperatives.
Last year, 4,882 farms (74,826 hectares) subscribed to rice disaster insurance, and 3,977 farms that suffered damage from typhoons ‘Lingling’ and ‘Tapa’ received insurance payments totaling 8.6 billion KRW.
