Vice Minister Jeong Byeong-seon "Strengthening Research Support to Prepare for COVID-19 Variants"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Junho] Jeong Byeong-seon, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, visited the New Drug Development Support Center within the Osong Advanced Medical Complex on the 3rd and promised to strengthen support.
Vice Minister Jeong stated, "In preparation for the periodic outbreaks of new and mutated infectious diseases, including COVID-19, we must strengthen the infectious disease research and research support functions of the New Drug Development Support Center and, further, the national infrastructure, the Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation."
He continued, "We will actively reflect the proposals of the center’s researchers and the demand-side researchers from industry-academia-research sectors of the Advanced Medical Industry Promotion Foundation, and we will spare no support necessary for this."

The New Drug Development Support Center is one of the four centers within the Advanced Medical Complex, playing a role in developing foundational technologies required in the early stages of new drug development or providing customized technical services to users. In particular, it is developing foundational technologies necessary for the development of COVID-19 treatments and vaccines.
