KOSPI Ends Above 2080 for 3 Consecutive Days... KOSDAQ Recovers to 740 Level
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI closed above the 2080 mark for the third consecutive trading day, buoyed by purchases from institutional investors. The KOSDAQ index also rose more than 1%, recovering to the 740 level as individual investors took a buying stance.
On the 2nd, the KOSPI closed at 2087.19, up 22.11 points (1.07%) from the previous day. Although the KOSPI started lower, it turned upward shortly after the opening and steadily expanded gains throughout the session, finishing above 2080.
Looking at trading trends by participant, institutional investors led the index rise with net purchases of 34 billion KRW. In contrast, foreign and individual investors sold net amounts of 48.7 billion KRW and 10 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, banks (6.07%), insurance (5.12%), and transportation equipment (4.39%) rose, while services (-0.35%) and pharmaceuticals (-0.32%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Hyundai Mobis (3.88%), Hyundai Motor (2.50%), Samsung SDI (1.09%), Samsung C&T (0.98%), and LG Household & Health Care (0.51%) increased, whereas Kakao (-1.70%), Celltrion (-1.32%), NAVER (-1.27%), NCSoft (-0.74%), and SK Hynix (-0.36%) fell.
On the KOSPI market that day, 643 stocks rose, including four that hit the upper price limit, while 195 stocks declined with no stocks hitting the lower price limit. Sixty-eight stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index also continued its three-day winning streak, recovering to the 740 level. The KOSDAQ started higher and maintained a firm tone throughout the session, increasing its gains by more than 1% in the late session to close at 743.58, up 7.86 points (1.07%) from the previous day.
By trading participant, individual investors net bought 64.3 billion KRW, while institutions and foreigners net sold 29.5 billion KRW and 15.5 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, transportation equipment and parts (3.54%), pharmaceuticals (2.16%), and other services (1.97%) rose, while telecommunications services (-0.89%), non-metallic minerals (-0.54%), and internet (-0.48%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Helixmith surged more than 10% with a 13.06% increase, while Medyion (6.72%), HL Biopharma (4.60%), Genexine (2.50%), Studio Dragon (1.30%), and Celltrion Pharm (0.80%) also rose. Conversely, Seegene (-4.71%), Celltrion Healthcare (-1.91%), and EcoPro BM (-0.76%) declined.
