Deputy Minister Lee Tae-ho Holds Video Conference with 8 Consuls General in the U.S.... 79 Cases of Damage to Korean Stores Reported
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 2nd that it held a video conference chaired by Second Vice Foreign Minister Lee Tae-ho with eight consuls general stationed in the United States.
Vice Minister Lee, who is in charge of the Overseas Korean Protection Countermeasures Headquarters, reviewed the situation regarding the death of a Black person in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the status of damage to Korean nationals, and discussed measures to protect overseas Koreans. Eight consuls general stationed in the U.S., including those in New York, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Seattle, San Francisco, and LA, as well as officials from related departments of the headquarters, attended the meeting.
Vice Minister Lee urged, "Please maintain the emergency contact network while continuously monitoring situations that may threaten the safety of our overseas nationals, prepare related measures such as strengthening security cooperation with law enforcement agencies in Korean-dense areas, and make every effort to prevent damage to and provide relief for overseas Koreans."
So far, a total of 79 cases of property damage to Korean stores have been reported in Philadelphia (50 cases), Minneapolis (10 cases), Raleigh (5 cases), and Atlanta (4 cases). No casualties have been reported.
The consuls general attending the meeting reported on regional trends and assessments, safety advisories, the operation status of emergency response teams, and the implementation status of damage prevention measures at each mission, and exchanged opinions on future countermeasures.
