On the 2nd, the city announced that it installed a saltwater electrolysis (eco-friendly) sterilization device (hypochlorous acid production sterilization device) that produces hypochlorous acid (HOCL), a high-grade disinfectant that manages the water quality of Wansan and Deokjin swimming pools with eco-friendly materials and reduces maintenance costs.
Both swimming pools had been operated using a water quality management method utilizing sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl, bleach), which caused complaints from users such as eye redness, eye irritation, and skin diseases.
To improve these issues, the city installed a 'saltwater electrolysis sterilization device' that manages water quality using eco-friendly salt.
This method extracts only hypochlorous acid water (HOCL) by electrolyzing salt and injects this solution into the water to automatically adjust the swimming pool water concentration.
Through this, the city expects to reduce the characteristic disinfectant odor and harmfulness caused by the existing bleach injection, thereby resolving user inconveniences, while also saving about 32 million KRW in management budget spent on additional chemicals for concentration adjustment.
