Introduction of 'Naver AI Facial Recognition' for TOEIC Speaking Identity Verification
[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Naver announced on the 2nd that it has introduced Naver's facial recognition system into the verification process for TOEIC Speaking test takers in collaboration with the YBM Korea TOEIC Committee.
The TOEIC Speaking facial recognition system is scheduled to be implemented starting from the exam on the 6th to prevent proxy test-taking and simplify the identity verification process. The system uses artificial intelligence (AI) to compare the photo submitted by the test taker during registration with the photo taken on-site to verify the test taker's identity. Test takers simply need to capture their face using the webcam installed on each computer before the exam starts and check in for the test.
Naver's facial recognition system features a high accuracy rate of over 99% and can detect a person's face in just 0.1 seconds, enabling rapid identity verification. The AI calculates facial feature values and quickly compares the similarity between two faces, reducing errors in identity verification.
The introduction of this facial recognition system allows for quick exam check-in without the need to enter separate authentication information such as date of birth or test number. It also helps prevent proxy test-taking, which is expected to increase the reliability of TOEIC Speaking test scores. The two companies plan to extend the facial recognition system to other language speaking tests administered by YBM, such as the Chinese Speaking Test (TSC) and the Japanese Speaking Test (SJPT), as part of this collaboration.
