View original image[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] In a fan poll to select the greatest defender in the history of the English Premier League (EPL), Rio Ferdinand, a defender who played for Manchester United (Man Utd), was chosen as number one.
British media outlet 'The Sun' revealed the results of the 'Greatest EPL Defender of All Time' poll conducted among its readers on the 1st (Korean time).
With about 9,000 participants, Ferdinand, formerly of Man Utd, received 30% of the votes (2,622 votes) and was selected as the greatest defender ever.
Following him, John Terry, who played alongside Ferdinand on the England national team and is a former Chelsea player, took second place with 19% of the votes.
The third place went to Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool, the only active player on the list, with 16% of the votes.
Also, Tony Adams, formerly of Arsenal, received 13%, and Vincent Kompany, formerly of Manchester City, followed with 9%.
The percentage of votes for other players was recorded at 13%.
Previously, in a poll conducted by British statistics media 'Squawka' on the 17th of last month (Korean time) for the 'Greatest EPL Center-Back of All Time,' Terry was ranked first and Ferdinand second.
Meanwhile, Ferdinand played for Man Utd from 2002 to 2014.
