Jeonnam Provincial Council Breaks a Sweat Harvesting Plums to Help Rural Labor Shortage

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] About 70 employees of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Council (Chairman Lee Yongjae) announced on the 29th that they visited plum farms struggling with labor shortages due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and carried out agricultural support activities.
The employees who participated in the labor assistance that day were divided into two groups and helped with the plum harvest in full swing during the farming season at the farms of Mr. Goh Gapsik (70 years old) in Jinjeong-ri, Jinwol-myeon, Gwangyang City, and Mr. Hong Seongsu (80 years old) in Osari, working up a sweat.
Farm owner Mr. Goh expressed his gratitude, saying, "It was very worrisome because it was difficult to find foreign workers due to COVID-19, but the Provincial Council employees helped us, so we feel relieved."
Chairman Lee Yongjae said, "This year, it is even more difficult to find labor due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation," adding, "It was a meaningful time for the employees to unite in helping struggling farms and understanding the realities of rural areas."
