India reports 7,466 new COVID-19 cases in one day... "Highest since outbreak"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] The daily number of new COVID-19 cases in India reached a record high on the 29th (local time) since the outbreak. The cumulative death toll surpassed 4,700, exceeding that of China.
According to local media such as India Today, the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced that the number of new COVID-19 cases in India increased by 7,466 on the day, bringing the total to 165,799. This is the first time that India’s daily new cases have risen to the 7,000 range. Currently, 89,987 patients, about half of the total, are undergoing treatment, and 42.8% have recovered.
By region, Maharashtra, located in central-western India and including Mumbai, recorded a cumulative total of 59,546 confirmed cases. The capital, New Delhi, reported 1,024 new cases on the day, setting a new daily record. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in New Delhi is 16,281.
The death toll increased by 175, bringing the total to 4,706. As a result, India has surpassed China’s cumulative death toll of 4,638 (according to Johns Hopkins University), which is known as the origin of COVID-19.
