Dong-A Pharmaceutical's Eco-Friendly Initiatives Draw Attention
Emphasis on Social Values Using Pulp Container Packaging and Eco-Friendly Mask Sheets
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Dong-A Pharmaceutical's environmentally friendly initiatives are drawing attention. These efforts align with the growing trend across society to prioritize environmental and social values.
The recently renewed and launched children's supplement "MiniMax Jungle" uses recycled pulp containers for its packaging, making separation and disposal easy. Certified as an eco-friendly green technology package, it can also be used for storage or as a toy. The supplement contains only essential but deficient nutrients, excluding those consumed above the recommended intake based on the Korean Dietary Reference Intakes. The company explains that synthetic flavorings, synthetic colorants, sweeteners, and other chemical additives have been minimized, and world-class quality ingredients are used to ensure safe consumption.
The customized mask pack line "Easy Soluderm Mask" uses biodegradable eco-friendly mask sheets, reducing environmental impact. The oral rinse "Garglin" has changed its container from a colored one to a colorless transparent container to facilitate recycling. Considering that colored plastics are difficult for recycling companies to sort and often end up buried or incinerated, this change aims to improve recyclability.
Last month, Dong-A Pharmaceutical established a Social Value Committee to actively pursue management that values non-financial aspects such as eco-friendliness, social contribution, and transparent governance?commonly known as ESG?alongside financial values like sales and profits. The committee is chaired by Dong-A Pharmaceutical President Choi Ho-jin and consists of a vice-chairman, 10 regular members, and 16 subcommittee members. In governance, the company plans to establish transparent decision-making procedures, while in the environmental sector, it aims to focus on developing eco-friendly products, environmental protection, climate change response measures, and sustainable resource use.
