Jeju, Gimhae, Gangjin, Wanju and Others to Receive a Total of 8 Billion KRW Support for This Year's Smart Village Project
[Asia Economy Reporter Seolgina Jo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 29th that it has selected four local governments for the 2020 "Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project": Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (Gujwa-eup), Gimhae City (Jinyeong-eup), Gangjin County (Gangjin-eup), and Wanju County (Bongdong-eup).
Now in its second year, the Smart Village Distribution and Expansion Project aims to bring the benefits of the 4th Industrial Revolution to rural fishing and farming villages by integrating intelligent information technology to enhance productivity, strengthen safety, and provide convenient living services.
Last year, Gangwon Province (Geundeok-myeon, Samcheok City) and Muan County (Muan-eup) were selected to develop and distribute 10 services including "ICT Convergence-Based Cattle Management," "Drone-Based Precision Agriculture," "Solar-Powered Information Boards," "Intelligent Video Security," "Interactive Communication Elderly Care," and "Smart Trash Bins."
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to support the four selected regions this year with a total of 8 billion KRW (2 billion KRW per eup/myeon) to successfully develop and apply a total of 20 services (5 per region) discovered this year, and based on operational performance, establish a smart village model that can be expanded nationwide.

The four locations selected through this year's competition will not only expand the excellent services developed last year but also discover and distribute new and specialized services reflecting the characteristics of rural fishing and farming areas. Through a living lab approach, where resident councils directly raise demands and participate in planning, evaluation, and overall project processes, the actual needs of residents and rural issues will be actively reflected to enhance residents' experience.
