Gyeongju City Installs Intelligent Transportation System at Intersections... Begins Trial Operation
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongju City, Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 27th that it will begin trial operations one month before the completion of the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) construction project, which has been underway since September last year following its selection in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's local government ITS contest project.
The ITS construction project, which was also a campaign pledge of Mayor Ju Nak-young during his 7th term, currently has a Parking Information System (PIS) installed at the Nodong Public Parking Lot using road surface sensors to allow real-time confirmation of available parking spaces.
Once this system is fully operational, all traffic signal controllers in the downtown area will be connected online to the Traffic Information Center, enabling immediate response by detecting traffic congestion or unexpected incidents through traffic information collection devices. By analyzing intersection congestion on Gangbyeon-ro, Yongdam-ro, Geumseong-ro, Sanup-ro, Taejong-ro, and the Oedong section, signal cycle optimization will be conducted, which is expected to improve traffic flow efficiency.
