This free distribution is being promoted to address fire blind spots caused by residential fires, which accounted for 21% of all fires (1,299 out of 6,172 cases) and 57.1% of fire fatalities (28 out of 49 deaths) over the past three years, and to implement a pro-citizen safety policy by supplying free residential fire safety equipment to economically disadvantaged fire-vulnerable households.
Residential fire safety equipment refers to fire extinguishers and standalone smoke detectors, which are mandatory to install in single-family, multi-family, and row houses according to the "Act on Fire Prevention, Installation and Maintenance of Firefighting Facilities, and Safety Management."
This year, Mujinjang Fire Station is installing 580 fire extinguishers and 1,360 standalone smoke detectors primarily for vulnerable groups, and continues to promote free distribution through fire-free safe villages and follow-up management.
Additionally, to expand residential fire safety equipment to both vulnerable (priority) and general groups, a one-stop support center is operating to assist from purchase to installation of residential fire safety equipment.
