Gyeongju City Provides 1.3 Billion KRW Support to Automotive Parts Software Development Companies
Selected for Ministry of Science and ICT Public Project... 5 Years of S/W Technology Development Until 2024
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Gyeongju City, Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 25th that it will promote the 'SW Convergence Cluster 2.0 Platform Commercialization Project' to support technology for local automobile parts companies and create jobs for young people.
The SW Convergence Cluster 2.0 project is a project selected in March by the Information and Communication Industry Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Science and ICT, involving seven cities and counties in Gyeongbuk Province (Gyeongju, Pohang, Gumi, Gyeongsan, Yeongcheon, Chilgok, Gimcheon). A total of 13.248 billion KRW, including national and provincial funds, will be invested over five years from this year to 2024 for building and operating an SW convergence mobility platform, discovering SW convergence services and supporting technology development, employing SW convergence youth internships, and training professional personnel.
In the case of Gyeongju City, with a total project budget of 1.32 billion KRW (660 million KRW national, 198 million KRW provincial, 462 million KRW city funds), 200 million KRW will be allocated in the first year to support technology development, prototype production costs, and research laboratory equipment purchases for companies in the SW development sector. Companies wishing to participate can apply to the Gyeongbuk SW Convergence Promotion Center by the 27th.
Previously, Gyeongju City completed the SW Convergence Cluster 1.0 project from 2015 to 2019 with a project budget of 1.325 billion KRW (575 million KRW national, 250 million KRW provincial, 500 million KRW city funds). During that project, a total of 24 cases were supported including R&D technology development and commercialization support, resulting in 43 new employments and 9 startups.

Mayor Nakyoung Joo of Gyeongju said, "Due to the recent impact of COVID-19, local automobile parts companies are facing various difficulties. In addition to existing support projects in the H/W field such as R&D and prototype production, we expect to expand and grow local companies into high value-added industries by strengthening technological competitiveness in the S/W field." He urged active participation from interested companies.
