Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of President Roh Moo-hyun’s passing on the 23rd, issued a memorial statement and reflected on the ‘Roh Moo-hyun spirit,’ saying, “‘Roh Moo-hyun spirit’ is about creating a ‘world where people live’ where common sense and principles prevail.”
The mayor emphasized, “We will strive harder to improve the quality of life and happiness index by creating quality jobs where citizens receive honest rewards proportional to their hard work and efforts, and by resolving labor inequality and polarization. We will build a dignified Gwangju of harmony and inclusion where slander and conflict disappear.”
He continued, “‘Roh Moo-hyun spirit’ breaks regionalism and achieves balanced national development and integration,” adding, “We will do our best to achieve true national unity through the coexistence of Gwangju and Jeonnam, the east-west harmony of Yeong and Honam, and the nationalization of 5·18.”

He also said, “‘Roh Moo-hyun spirit’ is continuous innovation,” and added, “Following the footsteps of focusing on difficult and challenging tasks rather than easy and comfortable ones, preparing for tomorrow rather than today, and valuing meaningful work over popular work, we will continue on the path of innovation today for the construction of a just and prosperous Gwangju.”
