Tongyeong Coast Guard Criminal Patrol Boat, Intensive Crackdown on Fishing Boats and Water Leisure Violations in May
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] The Criminal Mobile Unit of the Tongyeong Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 21st that, as the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) virus has somewhat subsided, it will intensively crack down on illegal activities from the 22nd to the 24th.
The main focus of the crackdown is on illegal activities related to the increased use of fishing boats and leisure boats, targeting individuals (unlicensed, unregistered, etc.) and businesses (overloading, area violations, registration changes, etc.).
According to the Maritime Police Criminal Mobile Unit, there were a total of 28 cases of violations of the Water Leisure Safety Act in the past year, with 14 (50%) of these cases detected in May. Additionally, as of 2020, 8 cases of unlicensed operation have been cracked down on.
During this period, the Criminal Mobile Unit plans to strengthen safety management at major water leisure activity sites and promote water leisure safety awareness (such as wearing life jackets and installing the Haerod app) to establish a safety-conscious mindset.
In particular, from the 22nd to the 24th, they plan to focus on cracking down on illegal activities that jeopardize water leisure safety, including ▲not wearing life jackets ▲unlicensed and intoxicated operation ▲violation of navigation rules ▲exceeding capacity ▲unreported long-distance (10 nautical miles) ▲unregistered business activities.
