[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] It has been confirmed that the late Choi Hee-seok (59), who worked as a security guard at an apartment in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, and suffered verbal abuse and physical assault from residents, left a voice file will before taking his own life on the 10th.
In particular, Choi left this will and also attempted to take his own life. However, a neighboring resident discovered this, and Choi was transported to a nearby hospital where he received treatment and stabilized. Nevertheless, he ultimately took his own life a few days later.
According to the voice recording of Choi released by YTN on the 18th, Choi stated that he was repeatedly assaulted and threatened by resident A (49) and pleaded for A to be punished.
Choi said, "I endured by taking medicine while being hit by a person named A," and quoted A as saying, "'Let's go all the way,' 'Either you die or I die for this fight to end, so since you didn't submit your resignation, I dragged you into the mountains and you got hit 100 times...'"
The recording also included content suggesting that Choi felt extreme fear toward A due to the ongoing verbal abuse and physical assault.
With a trembling voice, Choi described A as "a face that enjoys torture. A terrifying face." He then pleaded, "Please help so that I won't be victimized by A again, and so that security guards won't suffer unjust treatment. Please punish him severely."
In front of the apartment security booth in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, where security guard A, who made an extreme choice after a conflict with a resident that started over a "parking issue within the complex," worked, memorial messages from residents were posted on the 11th.

The voice recording is known to have been made on the 4th, when Choi first attempted to take his own life. On that day, A sent text messages to Choi stating, "This is not one-sided assault but mutual assault," and "Since you are injured, prepare 20 million won for surgery expenses."
After receiving the messages, Choi tried to take his own life at the apartment in Ui-dong where he worked but was stopped by residents.
The bereaved family said, "My younger brother attempted to take his own life," and added, "At that time, a neighboring resident who happened to notice this embraced my brother tightly and prevented him from moving," further stating, "That resident stabilized my brother and even ensured he was admitted to a hospital located in Suyu-ri, Gangbuk."
It is also known that the resident actively raised awareness of Choi’s case in society, including leaving memorial messages at the security post where Choi worked.
However, Choi ultimately took his own life on the 10th.
Meanwhile, A, who has been identified as the perpetrator, appeared at the Gangbuk Police Station on the 17th for questioning. It is reported that he denied the charges during an 11-hour police investigation.
