Applications open until June 19 for registered disabled and national veterans with disability grades... Additional support planned for non-selected applicants
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is promoting the "2020 Assistive Information and Communication Technology Device Distribution Project for Persons with Disabilities" to improve the information capabilities of persons with disabilities who have difficulty accessing and utilizing information physically and economically, thereby helping their economic activities and social advancement.
Assistive information and communication technology devices are auxiliary devices designed to help persons with disabilities comfortably use various information devices (computers, wireless terminals, etc.).
Typical examples include reading magnifiers for the visually impaired, special keyboards for persons with physical and brain lesions disabilities, and voice amplifiers for the hearing impaired. These are essential devices for the smooth use of information devices by persons with disabilities.
The support targets are persons with disabilities registered in Gangseo-gu and national merit recipients who have been assessed with disability grades.
The support amount covers 80-90% of the price of the assistive device, and purchasers must pay 10-20% of the cost as a personal contribution.
The distributed items include a total of 91 types such as reading magnifiers, braille printers, video phones, voice amplifiers, special keyboards, wireless signal devices, speech training software, and screen reading software, which are provided in a customized manner according to the type of disability.
Applicants wishing to receive support must submit an application form, disability certificate, or national merit confirmation documents by June 19 and visit the district office's Information and Communication Division or the local community service center to apply.
Internet applications are also possible through the Assistive Information and Communication Technology Device website (http://www.at4u.or.kr).
The district will announce the final recipients based on eligibility and priority on July 17 on the website and notify individuals separately.
Additionally, for applicants not selected, the district plans to conduct an internal review and provide additional distribution.
A district official said, "We hope this support project will serve as an opportunity to somewhat bridge the information gap with non-disabled people," and added, "We will continue to promote various projects for information-vulnerable groups."
