Gwangyang City Conducts Soil Pollution Survey of Industrial Complexes and Factories
Starting from the 20th, 23 items will be surveyed at 8 companies including industrial complexes and factories
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City announced on the 15th that starting from the 20th, it will conduct a soil contamination survey targeting eight companies, including industrial complexes and factories where soil contamination is a concern.
This survey is being promoted to prevent harm to citizens' health and the environment caused by soil contamination and to remediate contaminated soil.
The city has requested the Jeollanam-do Health and Environment Research Institute to analyze a total of 23 items, including eight types of heavy metals, and will conduct inspections according to the "Soil Contamination Testing Method." For companies exceeding the soil contamination concern standards, the city plans to issue orders for detailed investigations and remediation measures.
In particular, this survey is expected to be more precise as the Suncheon National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, which is promoting community support projects, will provide high-performance sampling equipment and professional technical personnel.
Kim Jae-hee, Director of the Environment Division, stated, "Soil contamination can have adverse effects on the soil ecosystem and cause secondary pollution such as groundwater contamination. Since restoration requires significant time and cost, prevention is crucial," adding, "We will conduct thorough investigations."
