Gangseo-gu Provides Hongcheon Wild Vegetable Gomchwi to Screening Clinic Staff
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Noh Hyun-song) has taken the initiative to "sell wild vegetables" to bring some vitality to the wild vegetable farmers in Hongcheon who are struggling due to COVID-19.
Last year, the Hongcheon Wild Vegetable Festival was successfully concluded with large crowds, but this year, the festival was completely canceled due to the impact of COVID-19, causing farmers who were preparing to harvest in time for the festival to face significant difficulties in selling their wild vegetables.
In response, Hongcheon County and the Hongcheon Cultural Foundation requested the district to purchase wild vegetables as part of their efforts to secure various sales channels and alleviate the worries of wild vegetable farmers.
The district decided to actively participate in selling wild vegetables to ease the concerns of Hongcheon wild vegetable farmers and to boost the morale of officials who have been quietly responding to COVID-19 for over five months.
The district purchased 270kg of Gomchwi (Ligularia) wild vegetables from Hongcheon County, worth about 3.5 million KRW in total, and will distribute 1kg per person to officials who have been working hard to prevent local infections, such as those operating COVID-19 screening clinics.
