LG CNS Develops 'AI Security Guard' Technology View original image

On the 12th, LG CNS announced that it has developed an 'AI Security Guard (tentative name)' technology that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) with X-ray equipment.

The AI Security Guard is a technology where AI analyzes images of bags, coats, and other items taken by X-ray devices installed at various building entrances to detect storage media or electronic devices that may pose a risk of information leakage.

Previously, security personnel stationed at entrances visually inspected X-ray images, which was inefficient in terms of reading time and accuracy.

The AI Security Guard identifies all storage media inside bags and coats in just 0.3 seconds. When the AI detects hidden storage media, the monitor displays the name of the storage media along with the probability of detection, such as 'USB 99%, Memory Card 85.5%.'

To enable AI recognition of X-ray images, LG CNS trained the AI with over 50,000 images of various storage media. As a result, it can identify eight types of storage media including USB drives, hard disks, memory cards, laptops, tablet PCs, smartphones, cameras, and e-books, achieving a reading accuracy of 99%. The AI can also distinguish storage media hidden inside notebooks or pouches within bags, or mixed with earphone cables, which are difficult for the human eye to identify.

LG CNS is deploying the AI Security Guard in research institutes and factories where strict security is required. The technology is currently in use at LG Display’s Magok Science Park research institute and Paju factory, as well as LG Chem’s Seoul headquarters and Ochang plant.

In the first half of next year, LG CNS’s AI X-ray image analysis technology is expected to be applied at immigration gates at Incheon Airport.

Ha Tae-seok, Executive Director of LG CNS, stated, "Based on research showing that storage media account for a significant portion of corporate core information leakage methods, we developed a storage media detection technology incorporating AI. Through intelligent X-ray screening, we expect to improve security breach detection rates and enhance the efficiency of monitoring operations."
