Volvo Korea and SK Telecom Jointly Develop Korean-Style Infotainment System
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Volvo Cars Korea is jointly developing a next-generation Korean-style infotainment system based on information and communication technology (ICT) together with SK Telecom.
Volvo Cars Korea announced on the 11th that it signed a contract for the development of an ICT-based Korean-style infotainment system, attended by Lee Yun-mo, CEO of Volvo Korea, and Lee Jong-ho, head of SK Telecom's Mobility Business Unit.
This collaboration aims to provide next-generation customized infotainment systems to domestic Volvo car buyers and is expected to be an important milestone in offering advanced connected services in the future, according to a Volvo official.

View original imageVolvo Korea plans to sequentially apply the next-generation infotainment system starting with some 2022 model year vehicles. The new infotainment system will integrate Tmap, a navigation service that holds the highest quality traffic information and map database (DB) in Korea, NUGU, an AI platform based on voice recognition, and FLO, a music platform based on user preferences, marking an industry first.
Lee Yun-mo, CEO of Volvo Korea, said, "The core value we must now provide to customers goes beyond simply the joy of driving to delivering an innovative and optimized driving experience. Through this collaboration with SK Telecom, a global leader in ICT technology, domestic customers will experience the best customized connected services."

Volvo Cars, which first introduced Apple CarPlay at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, currently provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard on all models on sale. Additionally, in October, the brand unveiled the industry's first new infotainment system integrating Android Automotive OS through the XC40 Recharge, its first pure electric vehicle.
