EU to Recommend Lifting Internal Border Controls Next Week
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The European Union (EU) Commission is expected to recommend the gradual lifting of internal border controls next week, according to major foreign media on the 9th (local time). Previously, the EU had implemented border control measures between member countries to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to foreign media, the EU Commission is also expected to propose the partial resumption of travel to support the struggling tourism industry through a draft plan related to COVID-19 response. This plan is scheduled to be released on the 13th.
The tourism industry is one of the major industries in the EU, especially in Italy and Spain, which have been severely affected by COVID-19. Governments of EU member states as well as countries worldwide have restricted the movement of their citizens to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections, causing significant damage to the tourism industry.
