Golden Holiday, Convenient Meals at Convenience Stores for Wise Homebodies
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Despite the golden holiday lasting a record six days, convenience store chains have introduced various snacks and home meal replacements (HMR) for the so-called 'homebodies' who stay at home while adhering to social distancing.
GS25 is collaborating with the animation 'Trolls: World Tour' to offer exclusive products and promotions. GS25 presents a total of 33 exclusive items featuring Trolls: World Tour characters, including snacks, cookies, jelly, bread, and refrigerated ready meals. To celebrate the launch of the Trolls: World Tour collaboration products, a Troll-related prize giveaway promotion will run from the 1st to the 31st of this month.
Customers who purchase Troll event products and accumulate GS&POINTs will receive one stamp per product in their 'My Fridge' (GS25 mobile application). Collecting five stamps will allow customers to receive random prizes on a first-come, first-served basis.
The prepared prizes include 2,500 Troll random Lego packs, 5,700 Troll figures, 4,500 Trolls: World Tour VOD vouchers (channel: KakaoPage), and 4,500 Trolls: World Tour VOD 50% discount coupons. The promotion will automatically end once the prizes are depleted.
Kakao Friends' 'Ryan Crunch Cake' will also be launched on the 30th. The 'Ryan Crunch Chocolate Cake' features the cute face of Ryan, combining a soft chocolate sheet with crispy crunch chocolate embedded densely, offering a rich dark chocolate flavor. Considering the trend of contactless consumption, it will initially be available exclusively for delivery at GS25 stores that support delivery services through the Yogiyo partnership.
CU has launched a ready meal series using Boseong Nokdon pork and Boseong green tea, specialties of Boseong County, Jeollanam-do. This was planned to support farmers struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
'Boseong Nokdon Jeongsik' includes vegetables, pork hind leg meat, spicy stir-fried bulgogi, and sirloin pork cutlet all on one plate. The side dishes consist of a soft-boiled fried egg, low-salt white stir-fried kimchi, stir-fried anchovies with walnuts, and seasoned rape blossoms, providing nutritional balance. Since this product was designed to promote the consumption of domestic agricultural products, all main ingredients in the side dishes are also domestically sourced.
'Boseong Green Tea Bibim Noodles' are made with green tea noodles containing Boseong green tea extract, mixed with fresh vegetables such as romaine lettuce, stonecrop, and carrots, along with bibim sauce for mixing. A soft-boiled egg is included to soothe the spiciness.
Other offerings include 'Boseong Nokdon Kimbap' and 'Pork Cutlet Burger' containing whole Boseong Nokdon sirloin pork cutlet, 'Boseong Nokdon Sirloin Pork Cutlet Triangle Kimbap' topped with pork cutlet on green tea rice, and 'Boseong Green Tea Cream Sand' filled with green tea cream, injeolmi rice cake, and red bean paste.
Seven Eleven is launching 'Hwanghaedo Haeju-style Bibimbap' as a special product to commemorate 20 years since the launch of bibimbap. Seven Eleven's 'Hwanghaedo Haeju-style Bibimbap' was developed over four months in collaboration with Professor Youngsil Han's Customized Food Research Lab at Sookmyung Women's University, a food nutrition expert. Haeju bibimbap, a local dish from Hwanghae Province, is known as 'Haeju Gyoban' and is characterized by using soy sauce instead of gochujang (red chili paste) for the bibim sauce.

Seven Eleven expects quick market acceptance as consumer satisfaction with bibimbap is generally high, and the 'Hwanghaedo Haeju-style Bibimbap' offers a unique new concept. In fact, convenience store bibimbap lunch boxes have maintained their reputation as steady sellers for a long time. Bibimbap first appeared on domestic convenience store menus 20 years ago when Seven Eleven launched 'Summer Vegetable Bibimbap' in 2000.
