Deputy Minister Kim Geon: "Providing Entry Convenience to Chinese Bereaved Families"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Ambassador Xing Haiming conveyed condolences to the Korean side regarding the Icheon fire accident. A total of 38 people, including construction workers and migrant workers, died in the incident. Among the 29 identified victims, there were 3 foreigners: 1 Chinese and 2 Kazakhstani nationals.
According to the Embassy of China in Korea on the 1st, Ambassador Xing Haiming had a phone conversation with Kim Geon, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and expressed condolences to the Korean side regarding the Icheon fire accident.
Ambassador Xing stated, "On the 29th of last month, a sudden large-scale fire accident occurred at a logistics warehouse in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, causing severe casualties and property damage," adding, "The Chinese side shares the same deep sorrow as the Korean side, sincerely expresses condolences to Korea, offers heartfelt sympathy to the victims, and hopes for the speedy recovery of the injured."
Furthermore, Ambassador Xing added, "Unfortunately, one Chinese national lost their life in this accident," and requested, "We hope the Korean side will handle the post-incident measures properly."
In response, Deputy Minister Kim expressed gratitude for the Chinese side's condolences and extended condolences for the Chinese national who lost their life in the accident. Deputy Minister Kim replied, "The Korean government is investigating the cause of the accident and will provide convenience for the bereaved families to enter Korea."
