Last Year, South Korea's Semiconductor Sales Decreased by 32%, Highest Decline Rate
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Last year, South Korea recorded the highest decline rate in semiconductor sales among major countries worldwide.
According to market research firm IC Insights on the 24th, South Korea's semiconductor sales last year decreased by 32% compared to the previous year. This was the largest decline rate among major countries globally.
Following South Korea were Japan at -24%, the United States at -9%, Taiwan at -3%, and China at 10%. The global average was -15%.
The sharp drop in South Korea's semiconductor sales is attributed to the sluggish semiconductor businesses of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. As the memory semiconductor market weakened last year, the semiconductor performance of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix significantly declined compared to the previous year.
Looking at the market share of semiconductors by individual countries, South Korea ranked second with 21%. The United States was first, holding 55%. Taiwan and Japan followed with 6% each, and China had 5%.
