Hyundai Motor Company Supports US 'Drive-Through Screening Clinics' with $2 Million
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Hyundai Motor Company is leading the spread of the 'Drive-Through Screening Clinic,' a COVID-19 testing system that has gained worldwide attention, across the United States. In particular, by introducing the Korean-style 'screening clinic' to the U.S., the birthplace of the global car culture represented by 'Drive-Through,' the perception of both Korea and Hyundai Motor among Americans is expected to improve further.
According to the automotive industry and Hyundai Motor Group on the 26th, Hyundai Motor's U.S. subsidiary decided on the 24th (local time) to support the strengthening of the drive-through screening clinic system with a total of $2 million through its social contribution program, 'Hyundai Hope On Wheels.'
'Hyundai Hope On Wheels' is a social contribution program that Hyundai Motor and local dealers have been operating since 1998 to eradicate pediatric cancer. When consumers purchase a car, dealers accumulate a donation of $14 per vehicle, and Hyundai Motor adds additional donations to create a fund. As of the end of last year, the cumulative donations reached a total of $160 million, making it the second largest pediatric cancer-related fund in the U.S. and the largest in the private sector.
Hyundai Motor North America plans to operate drive-through screening clinics and designate 10 children's hospitals for support through 'Hyundai Hope On Wheels.' It is known that $200,000 each has already been delivered to three hospitals located in Orange County, California; Cleveland, Ohio; and Washington, D.C.
Hyundai Motor North America plans to select and support an additional seven hospitals to strengthen its support.
In the U.S., since the spread of COVID-19, voices from various social sectors have praised the Korean-style screening clinic system and demanded its adoption. Subsequently, U.S. President Donald Trump declared a national emergency related to the COVID-19 outbreak on the 13th (local time) and expressed his intention to introduce the Korean-style screening clinic method.
A Hyundai Motor official said, "Because COVID-19 can be fatal, especially to child patients with pediatric cancer, we have focused on supporting screening clinics operated by children's hospitals," adding, "Through this support, we will become a strong partner representing and helping children's health."
