Court Limits Attendance to Half for Jeon Du-hwan Trial to Prevent COVID-19 Spread
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The court has decided to limit the number of attendees at the defamation trial of former President Jeon Du-hwan, which will resume next month, to half in order to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The Gwangju District Court announced that only those holding admission tickets will be allowed to attend the preparatory hearing of Jeon’s case, scheduled for 2 p.m. on the 6th of next month in Criminal Courtroom 201 at the Gwangju District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Jeong-hoon of Criminal Division 8, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Accordingly, the general seating capacity will be reduced from the original 65 seats to 33 seats.
Distribution of admission tickets will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 1:10 p.m. on the day of the trial, and attendees must bring identification.
Attendees must be seated according to the seat number indicated on their admission ticket, and entry to the courtroom may be restricted if masks are not worn.

Meanwhile, Jeon was indicted on charges of defamation for criticizing the late Father Jo Bi-o as a "Satan, shameless liar" and damaging his reputation by claiming in his 2017 memoir that Father Jo’s testimony witnessing helicopter gunfire was false.
