Norwegian Olympic Committee Sends Letter to IOC Requesting Postponement of Tokyo Olympics
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] The Norwegian Olympic Committee reportedly requested the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to postpone the Tokyo Olympics, according to the Norwegian daily Aftenposten on the 21st (local time).
According to the report, the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Sports Federation sent a letter to the IOC proposing to delay the Tokyo Olympics until the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation is under control.
Berit Kjell, president of the Norwegian Sports Federation, added that regardless of the IOC's decision, an independent evaluation regarding the Norwegian delegation's participation in the Tokyo Olympics will be conducted.

President Kjell stated, "Considering that COVID-19 has not been resolved in Norway and most parts of the world, it is inappropriate for the global community to send Norwegian athletes to the Olympic and Paralympic Games before this infectious disease is controlled."
