View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, called the election law amendment, including the mixed-member proportional representation system, a "monster election law," blaming the controversy surrounding the recent proportional satellite parties on the election law. Regarding the recent confusion over the proportional list of the Future Korea Party, he expressed "a heavy heart."
On the 21st, Hwang stated through his Facebook "Morning Letter," "The monstrous election law has turned Korean politics into a monster and trampled on the dignity of others."
He referred to the public appeal he made at the end of last year to block the passage of the election law amendment, saying, "I said that if the election law passed, the election would be ridiculed and become a laughingstock worldwide," and added, "Now that the election law has passed, how is the situation? The concerns in my appeal have become reality."
At the end of last year, while bedridden, Hwang warned in his appeal, "If the election law passes, more than 100 bizarre parties, including the Proportional Korea Party, Proportional Democratic Party, and Proportional Justice Party, will emerge, ridiculing the election and making it a laughingstock worldwide."
He said, "a great confusion related to proportional parties has occurred, and parties and elections have been completely ridiculed," and questioned, "At that time, the Democratic Party and its allied forces attacked me daily, accusing me of stirring up colorism and ideological conflicts, but did they really not expect this to happen?" This appears to be a remark targeting the recent discord within and around the Democratic Party of Korea's proportional satellite party, the Democratic Citizens' Party.
Not only the Democratic Party of Korea but also the Future Korea Party, the proportional satellite party of the United Future Party, experienced a nomination turmoil, leading to a full replacement of the leadership and the nomination committee, causing internal strife. Regarding this, Hwang said, "We had no choice but to create the Future Korea Party to counter the forces that made the monster law, but the confusion in the nomination process disappointed many of you," expressing "a very heavy heart."

He acknowledged, "I also bear responsibility for not being able to stop the monster law," but pointed out, "The root of the problem lies with the irresponsible forces that passed the monster law." He emphasized that voters must judge the ruling party in the general election. Hwang said, "Do not forget the birth incident of the monster law that happened last winter. The reason we must judge the Moon Jae-in administration and its allied forces in this general election," adding, "The monster election law must be abolished."
