Suspected Infection from Hong Kong COVID-19 Patient Owner... Death After Negative Test
SCMP Reports Pet Dog Recovered, Died After Returning Home
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Young-shin] A pet dog of a confirmed COVID-19 patient has died. Hong Kong authorities announced earlier this month that the pet dog (Pomeranian) was infected with COVID-19.
The Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 18th (local time) that a pet dog, presumed to have been infected with COVID-19 from a human, died on the 16th.
SCMP reported that the pet dog tested negative for COVID-19 twice on March 12 and 13 and returned home on the 14th. The dog's owner, a 60-year-old woman, was infected with COVID-19 on the 25th of last month, received hospital treatment, and was discharged.
The pet dog was also tested for COVID-19. Hong Kong authorities collected samples from the dog's nose and mouth five times in total, revealing weak positive reactions. The authorities presume the dog was infected with COVID-19 from its owner. The dog had been quarantined in a protective facility and returned to its owner after testing negative.
